Forest and Outdoor Learning Award (FOLA)
The Forest and Outdoor Learning Award (FOLA) is a nationally recognised qualification designed to build confidence, practical skills and knowledge through learning outdoors.
Big Wild Life is an approved assessment centre for the Forest and Outdoor Learning Awards, working with Newbattle Abbey College, the awarding body for the qualification. FOLA is accredited through the Scottish Credit and Qualifications Framework (SCQF) and provides opportunities for learners to develop skills in outdoor learning, woodland environments, conservation and sustainability. The awards are practical and hands-on, making them particularly suited to people who learn best by doing. Depending on the level, participants can develop skills in areas such as working safely outdoors, caring for woodland environments, using tools, managing risk and supporting others to learn outdoors.
Big Wild Life can support young people, schools, educators and community organisations to access FOLA qualifications and develop the skills and confidence to spend more time learning, working and leading in outdoor spaces.
FOLA provides a pathway from introductory outdoor learning through to qualifications that support people to lead Forest School and outdoor learning programmes. (Forest School Training)
